what is "Giclee?"

Giclee (zhee-clay) is a French name for fine art print. The word actually comes from the French word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray." This is related to our printing process because the ink is actually applied by means of an ink jet printer where ink is actually squirted out of the printer head one tiny droplet at a time to create the final image.

As technology has become more and more sophisticated in the digital age it has also become smaller. This has enabled us to reproduce digital images with space age detail. This gives us the ability to provide a more affordable and creative method of reproduction for many sorts of digital images. Older methods of print reproduction involved expensive photographic prints or high quantity lithographs which would require the artist or photographer to print hundreds or even thousands of prints at a time.

With this technology we are able to provide a product that is affordable and can emulate an original look and feel. Since the print head actually uses ink jet it is able to print on a range of print materials such as canvas, heavy art paper, watercolor paper, and vinyl.

The Giclee process does require any original piece, be it a painting or a photograph, to be in digital format. Artwork, Photos, and transparencies must be scanned or photographed with high resolution equipment.

The benefits to using the giclee process.

The benefits are archiving your work in a way that emulates your original. You could reproduce as few as one or as many as you would like. It is good for photographers of all levels from amateur shooting with a simple point and click device or even a seasoned photographer shooting with the most sophisticated equipment known to man. Artist can now provide a creative new looking reproduction of their drawings, paintings, and more. Even 3-d and digital artist can get in on the fun! You can have your work photographed and reproduce prints of that work for many applications such as portfolio presentation or even resale!
